4. Wireless systems in use

The frequency bands allocated for rural telecommunication systems are shown in Attechment No.1.

TDMA-VSAT: In 1998, four aimag centres and the four biggest somon centres -- which had no access to trunk lines via microwave -- were linked via a VSAT DAMA system. While these projects will bring basic phone services, Internet and data communications to some remote areas for the first time, the VSAT systems allow companies to offer distance learning, telemedicine and other applications in remote regions using videoconference technology. We are planning to implement a nation-wide VSAT rural telecom network by the year 2000.

FDMA-VSAT: In 1998, the Civil Aviation Authority established FDMA-VSAT networks with regional gateways in the capital city of Ulaanbaatar and a few remote sites throughout the country for a civil air navigation system.

CDMA-WLL: From January 1999 the Mobicom Corp. has started telephone service using CDMA-WLL technology in Ulaanbaatar.

MW (VHF,UHF) - Being planned.

Attachment No. 1 contains a table showing a technical comparison of each WLL system that is existing, under construction or planned.
